As progress continues, laser printers became faster and faster. At the same time, software programs became even more sophisticated. Spell checking was now standard, and the introduction of a thesaurus and grammar checking features a computer processing the dominant means of composing written communication. The typewriter quietly departed the scene, rarely found in homes or businesses anymore.
